Mashed potatoes with cashew

Mashed potatoes are a classic in homemade backpacking meals because it’s such an easy affordable meal with many calories.

And it tastes good too! 😄

What you’ll need

For this dish you’ll need 5 simple ingredients that you can get in most grocery stores.

Cashew60 g / 350 kcal
Fried onion20 g / 70 kcal
Pepper5 g / 15 kcal
Salt5 g / 0 kcal
Total weight / calories200 g / 835 kcal

You could off course experiment with adding some other ingredients that go well with mashed potatoes too, like sun dried tomatoes and/or coconut flakes.

Simply add all the ingredients to a bag, and keep the fried onions and cashews separate.

Now, to save time, you might want to prepare this meal a few more times since you’re busy anyway.

Preparing your meal

Like most backpacking meals, preparing couldn’t be easier.

Boil 250ml of water with your cooking setup.

And add the mashed potato stuff to the pot while stirring.

After the consistency gets thicker, stir in cashews, and add the fried onions on top. Done!
